EV drivers to get first 6,000 miles free with new partnership

Unlike other EV charging plans on the market, Charge Anytime does not limit users to charging at certain times of the day – giving customers the freedom to charge their EVs whenever they need to.  To access the free miles, Select Car Leasing’s customers will receive £200 to their energy account (the equivalent to charging miles) after taking delivery of an eligible vehicle.

OVO has announced a partnership with Select Car Leasing, providing an offer of 6,000 free electric vehicle charging miles.

Select customers who choose to make a switch from their current home energy supply to OVO’s Charge Anytime electric vehicle add-on, will get the electricity for their first 6,000 miles charged at home for free.

Charge Anytime is a smart charging electric vehicle add-on helping customers cut costs. Customers will be able to access a charging rate of 10p per kWh (equating to 3p a mile), which is three times cheaper than the national average (26p per kWh).

By splitting customers’ home energy and EV energy usage, tariff users can save 71% on charging costs. Additionally, Charge Anytime is seven times cheaper than public charge points. The cost savings of the free add-on will appear as a credit against energy bills.

The announcement comes as OVO’s research shows 91% of current petrol and diesel car owners say that they would be more likely to consider purchasing an electric car if the cost of charging were lower.

Mark Tongue, Joint Chief Executive and Co-Founder at Select Car Leasing, said: “The number one goal at Select Car Leasing is to drive down the cost of motoring for our customers. As we transition to electric cars and vans, there’s a fantastic opportunity to reduce vehicle running costs further by charging at home.

“By switching to OVO’s Charge Anytime add-on, our customers can charge their electric vehicle (EV) at home from just 3p per mile. That compares very favourably to the cost of fuelling the average petrol or diesel car, which is currently around 18p per mile*. And the cost comparison illustrates perfectly some of the savings that can be made by switching from a traditionally fuelled car to an EV.

“OVO and Select are on a shared mission to help customers decarbonise their lives. Electric vehicles are part of that process, and we are extremely excited that Select is now OVO’s recommended EV leasing partner. We look forward to working together in the coming months and years to make leasing and charging an EV as efficient as possible.”
