Audi becomes leasing favourite during lockdown

The Audi A3 topped the list of leasing enquires on Leasing.com, followed by the Volkswagen Golf and affordable Vauxhall Corsa. Perhaps the biggest surprise at the start of 2021 has been the downturn in enquiries on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, and Mercedes-Benz in general.

AUDI’S A3 was the most popular car to lease during January as new car consumers continued to shift online, according to the latest data from Leasing.com.

During January, car showrooms were closed to the public along with other non-essential retail. But consumers continued to compare prices and secure new car finance online.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been the most popular car to lease for the past two years, but has seen its popularity wane during the pandemic as consumers turned to more affordable hatchbacks.

Similarly, Audi topped the Leasing.com manufacturer league table, with Mercedes-Benz slipping to fourth place behind Volkswagen, Land Rover and BMW.

Paul Harrison, Head of Strategic Partnerships at Leasing.com, said: “The Coronavirus pandemic has changed so many things about the way we live our lives including the products and services we consume. Although many consumers still need access to their own transport, their choices are changing. They’re’ driving fewer miles, and often opting for less premium vehicles to help manage their finances.

“Monthly prices for the Vauxhall Corsa start at around £120 per month on a 5,000 annual mileage deal. For many that’s less than the price of a monthly train ticket for keyworkers who still need to get to work.”
